Bariga Local Council Development Area sponsored the 2021 Annual Spelling Bee Preliminaries competition on Wednesday in an effort to promote good governance and great education in Lagos State.
The event, which took place in the Council main hall, drew over 30 pupils from elementary and secondary schools and saw a display of intellectual agility and bravery.
The competition was challenging, but the competitors overcame all barriers and gave it their all in each of the five rounds.
Alabi Kolade David, the Executive Chairman, was represented by Hon. Zainot Kupoluyi, the Vice Chairman, who praised the teachers for their tireless efforts in providing good guidance to the students. He also urged the students to stay away from any social dangers. The Chairman went on to denounce student misbehavior and stated categorically that mistreatment of vulnerable students will not be tolerated.
He reterated, ‘I encourage our children to shun all manners of social evils, I also want to use this opportunity to appeal to those who take advantage of the vulnerable nature of our chuldren, my voice is loud and clear, it is unacceptable’.
Meanwhile, Nnam Henry of Alubarika Primary School was declared the primary category winner, while Awosanmi Semilore of Baptist Girls Primary School and Nnamdi Precious of Ayetoro Primary School were named first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively, after a long and fierce intellectual battle.
The secondary category was won by Abigail Owoola of Eva Adelaja Secondary School, with Adenuga Moses of St. Lukes Secondary School and Taiwo Eniola of Baptist Secondary School coming in second and third, respectively.
As a result, the winner will advance to the State Spelling Competition to fight for the title of “One Day Governor.”
Mrs Adenike Owolabi, Bariga LCDA’s Head of Administration, thanked all of the awardees and encouraged them to keep working hard. She further emphasized that the chairman is committed to improving education from the ground up.
The vice chairman, Hon. Zainot Adeola Kupoluyi, the House leader, Hon. Temitope Okanlawon, Councillors, the Head of Administration, Mrs. Owolabi Adenike, and the management staff were present at the event.
