On Saturday night, armed intruders stormed the Maru Local Government headquarters in Zamfara State, murdering a divisional police officer, a sergeant called Rabiu Bagobiri, and a vigilante official named Shehu Chuka in the counteroffensive.
Kazeem Raheem, the Divisional Police Officer of the Local Government, mobilised his men and some neighbourhood vigilantes to fend off the bandits after learning of the attack. The gunmen, who were said to have stormed Maru in their numbers, were said to have fired sporadically, forcing residents to flee for safety.

The DPO, a sergeant by the name of Rabiu Bagobiri, and a vigilante official by the name of Shehu Chuka, however, were all slain during the counteroffensive.
The spokesman for the Zamfara State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, told newsmen that the state’s law enforcement officials are now in Maru doing an on-the-ground assessment.
The Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State, which is 84 kilometres from the state capital Gusau, is one of the local governments in the state that is plagued by bandits the most.
