Bandits in Zamfara State are said to have given seven communities in the state’s Tsafe Local Government Area a four-day deadline to pay a ransom of N37 million or face attack.
Bawagauga, Hayin Uda, Ruguza, Dumuyu, Zigau, Mai-Rerai, and Gidan Kado are among the communities.
On Monday, the ultimatum will be lifted.
The thieves split the money among the communities, according to a source in the area who confirmed the news to media.
According to him, the bandits demanded N13 million from inhabitants of Bawagauga, N7 million from residents of Hayin Uda, N6 million from residents of Gidan Kado, and N4 million from people of Mai-Rerai.
Ruguza, Dumuyu, and Zigau residents were each required to pay N2 million.
The insider also revealed that the bandits’ commander, Hassan Bamamu, had previously signed a peace contract with the state administration, promising to put an end to the group’s activities.
