With just over 3 days till the presidential vote, Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed is certain to win in Lagos State, the state with the most registered voters. He denied the idea that Labour Party had little chance of winning the election.
While predicting the results of the election, Baba-Ahmed did not think twice to minimise the impact of Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos and presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Even while he acknowledged that Kaduna is a “APC state,” he said it comes into “our category,” making it easy for him to win. He said, “Kaduna is category A throughout the entire North-West.”
Baba-Ahmed stated that: “By the grace of God, we have won Lagos, irrespective of Tinubu there. Are they going to come out and spread the people who are voting?” the entrepreneur asked during a live appearance on Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict on Tuesday.

When asked which states present a challenge, Baba-Ahmed responded, “Of course Yobe and Zamfara. Those two are terrific friends.
“It is logical. Many things that have never happened before in Nigeria are happening now with Labour Party. We’re the only three – party chairman, candidate, vice – born after independence.
“I’m losing modesty here. He’s a correct degree earner, which others cannot show you. I know Kwankwaso says he has a PhD; I don’t boast about a PhD or two master’s degrees.
“The 2023 elections, by the special grace of almighty Allah who gives power, is as good as won by Labour Party because of the mistakes others have made,” he said.
A Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, according to Baba-Ahmed, will not succeed in Nigeria given the country’s complicated ethnoreligious makeup. He asserted that Nigeria, which has a population of over 200 million people divided among more than 250 tribes, has a largely Muslim North and a predominantly Christian South.
In response to the two Muslims put out by the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) for this Saturday’s upcoming presidential election, Baba-Ahmed gave his opinion on the viability of a same-faith ticket. He noted that: “Why today Tinubu is not the vice president of Nigeria is the same reason he cannot be president,” Baba-Ahmed said during a live appearance on Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict on Tuesday.
“What couldn’t happen in 2015 when the then candidate Buhari asked for any nomination whatsoever from Tinubu – because that configuration has passed. It can no longer work in Nigeria. A Muslim-Muslin ticket cannot work anymore.”
“The creator of the heavens and earth does not make mistakes. This is the Federal Republic of Nigeria as duly filed at the United Nations and registered too,” he said.
