Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the outcome of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential primary election will shock Nigerians.
He stated that whoever emerges as the most qualified candidate should be guaranteed that the entire party will unite behind him and ensure that he wins the presidential election in 2023.
Wike claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s statement that he will always win the party’s ticket amounts to taking convention delegates for granted when addressing in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Kelvin Ebiri, the governor’s Special Assistant on Media, said as much in a statement.
“I didn’t expect him (Atiku), frankly speaking, to say that he will always take the ticket of the party.
“That is going too far and taking the delegates for granted,” Wike was quoted as saying.
The governor stated that he is dedicated to doing everything in his power to guarantee that the PDP returns to power in 2023 and begins the process of rebuilding the country after years of disastrous governance by the All Progressives Congress.
He advised PDP members to avoid divisive statements, predicting that the outcome of the party’s presidential race will surprise many.
“People should watch, there will be a shock as far as the PDP convention is concerned.
“People should watch what is going to happen. People like to underrate so many persons and it is not good in politics,” he added.
Wike expressed confidence that the PDP’s National Executive Committee will ensure the party adheres to the timetable just issued by the Independent National Electoral Committee.
