Nyesom Wike, the disgruntled governor of Rivers State, and Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential nominee, met Thursday in Abuja behind closed doors, some two months after the PDP’s presidential primary.
Atiku and Wike met at the home of Prof. Jerry Gana, a former minister of information and national orientation, according to PDP insiders, signaling what observers assumed to be reconciliation efforts to appease the governor. Details of the meeting were still hazy at the time of publication.
The source said, “Atiku and Wike met this (Thursday afternoon) at the residence of Jerry Gana. It was a good meeting, from what I gathered.
“They exchange pleasantries and they have resolved to move the reconciliation to the next stage.”
The insider responded when asked if we can infer that Wike and Atiku had reached a settlement, “They have started the process; this started with a one-on-one contact.
They will reach a particular level as a result, at which point they may address all the problems.
The source added that negotiations about the Director-General of the Atiku Campaign Organization were still going on.
Paul Ibe, Atiku’s media advisor, declined to respond when asked.
