Prior to the 2023 general elections, a former minister said that Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential contender, was meeting with some APC governors.
The minister, whose name was withheld, is a supporter of Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, according to Daily Trust.
According to reports, he made the claim in support of Governor Wike’s claimed meeting with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, in London.
The former minister in Wike’s camp confirmed the meeting in London and said there was nothing wrong with the negotiations, adding that Atiku is also meeting with APC governors.
“Atiku is also meeting with some APC governors, why are they complaining? What is good for the goose is good for the gander. It is all part of the game and nothing more,” the minister was quoted as saying”.
Meanwhile, a source in the campaign council of the APC presidential candidate described the meeting between Tinubu and Wike in London as “fruitful.” Six people, three from each side, attended the meeting, according to the source. Adding that topics related to the former governor of Lagos State’s presidential aspirations were thoroughly discussed.
It was learned that two decisions—whether Wike should leave the PDP and join the APC or stay in the PDP but support the APC in the presidential election—are being considered.
