President Muhammadu Buhari has been lauded by Atedo Peterside, the founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc and the Anap Foundation, for signing the electoral act amendment bill into law.
The president signed the bill on Friday at a ceremony conducted at the presidential palace in Abuja’s federal executive council (FEC) chamber.
The ceremony was attended by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Kayode Fayemi.
Peterside praised Buhari for approving the electoral measure, which he claimed “represents a significant improvement over previous legislation” in a tweet on his official Twitter page.
“The #GoNigeria movement wishes to thank Mr President, our Legislators, Civil Society etc. for this team effort,” he added.

Buhari had first objected to the law because it included a language urging that political parties select candidates through a direct primary process.
The measure, according to the president, “violates the spirit of democracy.”
The bill was revised by the national parliament to include indirect, direct, and consensus methods for selecting candidates.
Meanwhile, the electronic transmission of election results is another authorized recommendation in the electoral act.
