Military forces fired live bullets at students protesting the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) ongoing strike on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, military shot live gunfire at students from multiple Ondo State institutions to disperse them from the Ilesha/Akure expressway.
Students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, and Olusegun Agagu University of Technology, Okitipupa, OAUSTECH, have been blocking the expressway since Monday, causing traffic congestion.
The students protested the federal government’s stance on the issue, and ASUU had assembled on the FUTA North Gate and Roadblock, blocking the road to express their dissatisfaction.
The troops who were not from the state’s 32 Artillery Brigade were reportedly on their way to work when the protesting students blocked them from crossing through the roadway at the Roadblock axis.
Soldiers approaching from the Ilesha end of the road, according to several of the students who fled for safety, descended on the kids and destroyed their things.
