The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike has been handled by the Federal Government, according to Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, and there are no “legitimate grounds” for Nigerians to be unhappy.
In an interview with Politics Today on Channel Television on Wednesday, September 07, 2022 he made this statement.
Nigerians have reacted to the fact that the professors have been on strike since February 14th but that negotiations with the Federal Government have so far produced no results.
He responded that the government is not to blame when asked if Nigerians should be disappointed that the government is unable to break the impasse.
He claimed that if Nigerians are unhappy, “I don’t think they have very good grounds to be unhappy with the administration on this.” “Why should they feel let down? Please explain how, in your perspective, the government is to blame and not the union.
“You can only hold the federal government accountable if it refuses to do its job, which is to make an offer to appease the demands of the people. There is no demand that can be satisfied 100 percent by any government.”
The minister claimed that as part of efforts to put an end to the strike, the Federal Government had made ASUU an offer.
The administration has already presented a proposal. As the minister, I am aware that the government’s offer is likely the best it can be, he remarked on the programme. “Your best is all you can do.”
