Beginning in 2024, the governing council of Federal Universities will be responsible for paying earned allowances to teachers and other university employees at their individual schools.
Before turning over responsibility to the governing council of universities, the Federal Government will also disburse the sum of N50 billion to cover unpaid earned allowances.

This information was provided to our Abuja-based journalist on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 during a chat with a source within the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
“Also on the issue of earned allowances, 50 billion has been budgeted to cater for outstanding earned allowances while 170 billion has been fixed for salary increase. However, from 2024, it is the various governing councils that will be paying earned allowances while 300 billion will go for revitalization”.
Voting on the union’s protracted strike has started in ASUU branches all around the nation.
To allow the NEC to make an official decision on Thursday, the branch chairpersons are expected to submit their reports.
