The Federal Government’s decision to recognise the Congress of University Academics, a breakaway group of the union, has prompted a response from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) (CONUA).
A certificate of recognition and registration for CONUA had been given by the federal government on Tuesday.
The certificate was given to the CONUA leadership by Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige in the Federal Secretariat’s Phase 1 Conference Room in Abuja.
ASUU claimed that the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari is chasing shadows in response to the Federal Government’s decision to recognise CONUA.

Officials from ASUU told Daily Sun in a discussion that they are not affected by the Federal Government’s action because it will not have an impact on them.
Government response is “just shadow chasing,” according to Adelaja Odukoya, the ASUU coordinator in Lagos State. abandoning leprosy to spend time on ringworm. Nothing more or additional.
Odukoya responded, “Interesting, he who proclaims must prove,” in response to the assertions that CONUA had members in seventeen universities.
In Nigeria, how many public universities are there?
Odukoya asserts that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) both exist in Nigeria and that ASUU is unconcerned with their recognition.

Odukoya questioned, “Is the government interested in negotiation or award? ” when discussing what would occur if the Federal Government began negotiations with CONUA.
Adebayo Oni, a former ASUU chairman at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), characterised the Federal Government’s decision to authorise CONUA as a fruitless effort.
Let’s wait and watch how the situation plays out, he remarked. No issue. Allow them to depart first.
He continued by saying that ASUU is unconcerned with the recognition given to CONUA.
