On Wednesday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde asked that Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, resign.
Makinde, who sought Ayu’s resignation when South-West PDP stakeholders met with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the state capital of Ibadan, stated that Ayu must quit so that southerners will feel “completely included” in the party’s leadership.
Ayu, who was about to leave for a two-week trip abroad today, Wednesday September 16, 2022, recently pleaded with Adolphus Wabara, the temporary chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, to assist end the crisis in the party by reaching out to resentful party members.
After Atiku of Adamawa State won the PDP’s presidential primaries in May, tensions inside the party grew worse. Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, stepped down for Atiku at the main site, which enraged Wike.

Atiku received 371 votes, while Wike received 237. When Atiku announced Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate, the Rivers governor reportedly lost his cool once more.
Ayu (from Benue State) was also forced to resign by Wike, who maintained that northerners shouldn’t occupy both roles.
Walid Jibrin resigned as PDP BoT Chair last week in an effort to end the party’s lingering issues, and Wabara (from Abia State) took over in an acting capacity.
