Arsenal is off to a great start in the Premier League after defeating Fulham on August 27 to earn their fourth win of the year in as many games.
In a thrilling rivalry, Arsenal overcame a deficit to defeat Fulham and retake first place in the Premier League.
With a well-taken double in the first 10 minutes, captain Martin Odegaard gave the Gunners entire control of the game. After the half, William Saliba curled in a gorgeous third goal to seal the victory.
For the first time since 2004/05, Arsenal has won its first three league games. The margin of victory could have been considerably greater had VAR not disallowed Gabriel Jesus’ deft goal for offside.
The Gunners easily prevailed in the Expected Goals (xG) duel, 1.69 to 0.28, after outshooting their opponents 14-6 and forcing six of their own on-target shots.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is happy with the development but acknowledges that more can be done. He stated:
Continuity and consistency are undoubtedly beneficial to Arsenal’s future. This is the first time the Gunners have done so since the 2003–04 season thanks to Arteta’s decision to keep the same lineup for the first three games.
The hosts may decide to stick with Ben White at right-back despite Takehiro Tomiyasu’s return from injury because Fabio Viera is now healthy enough to play.
