The arrest and subsequent detention of terrorists’ negotiator Tukur Mamu, according to a former aviation minister named Femi Fani-Kayode, is “the biggest breakthrough in Nigeria’s campaign against Boko Haram (BH) and ISWAP rebels,” he claimed on Thursday.
Recall that on Wednesday at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, the Department of State Services (DSS) detained Tukur Mamu, publisher of the Desert Herald.
Ahmed Gumi, a well-known Islamic preacher, uses Mamu as a media consultant. Mamu led the negotiations for the release of the Kaduna train hostages.
When Mamu was travelling to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj, he was previously arrested at the Cairo International Airport in Egypt.

According to the DSS’s spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, Mamu was detained after being asked by the Nigerian Military to respond to some security-related questions.
The capture, repatriation, and custody of Tukur Mamu—a collaborator with the terrorists who bargains for ransoms on their behalf—represents the biggest advancement in the war against BH and ISWAP, according to Fani-Kayode, who posted the statement on his verified Twitter account.

“I salute the DSS and National Intelligence Agency‘s (NIA) honourable and patriotic efforts in this regard.
“I implore them to pursue his accomplices and other powerful people who are close to him and who have previously spoken and bargained for the terrorists.
“Finally, I urge them to pinpoint the connection between him and an influential PDP figure.”
According to this newspaper, Sheikh Gumi, a former military and physician, has been advocating for the release of the criminals terrorising the north-western and certain regions of north-central Nigeria.
He had visited the forests in the states of Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara to meet with the governors and a few known bandits in an effort to negotiate a peace treaty with the criminals.
