The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of Saturday’s chairmanship election in Abuja’s Abaji area council by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It was the ruling party’s second council victory, following the Gwagwalada council.
Prof Gabriel Mordi, the INEC returning officer in Abaji, who announced the results at the commission office on Sunday, said the yet-to-be-identified APC candidate received 7, 289 votes.
He defeated the PDP’s Alhaji Yahaya Garba Gawu, who received 4, 062 votes.
Prof Mordi stated that the APC winner will be announced after the case before the Supreme Court in Abuja is resolved.
Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, an APC chairmanship candidate in the area, filed an appeal with the Supreme Court after his candidacy was rejected by the FCT High Court and the Appeal Court.
Alhaji Mohammed Angulu Loko, who won the primaries on April 23, 2021, has been declared the lawful candidate.
