The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to an Abuja Federal High Court judgment removing Governor Dave Umahi from office.
Governor Umahi and his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, were fired from their positions by Justice Inyang Ekwo of an Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday for illegally defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice Ekwo ordered Umahi and his deputy to resign immediately, claiming that their defection was illegal, unconstitutional, and null and void.
Ekwo claimed that the governor and his deputy were elected by the PDP and that they could not keep the votes since they chose to abandon the party that nominated them.
Mr Simbad Chidi, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ebonyi’s Publicity Secretary, reacted by calling the court’s decision a “disturbance to democracy” in the state.
“Today’s ruling in Abuja cannot overrule the State High Court that upheld his defection to APC already. The ruling is unacceptable,” Chidi told newsmen.
