Former presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu, according to Reno Omokri, a former media advisor to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has no moral right to object if President Muhammadu Buhari chooses his successor.
Omokri, who recognised that Buhari’s decision to appoint his successor on his own constituted treason, claimed Tinubu had no moral grounds to object.
Buhari, he said, should let Nigerians choose his successor in 2023.
“It is wrong for Buhari to pick the APC’s presidential candidate on his own,” the socio-political commentator remarked in a series of tweets.
“But Tinubu has no moral grounds to complain about that. However, it is treasonable for Buhari to say he will pick his successor. Nigerians will pick his successor.
“If Buhari’s threat to produce his successor is predicated on repeating (what happened) 2019, my response to him is to repeat what he said on May 15, 2012: ‘They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way’.”
Buhari recently encouraged APC governors to allow him to choose his successor.
Buhari argued that he should be able to choose his successor because state governors were given the same privilege.
He made the remarks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after a meeting with governors.
