The Lagos State Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) Mr. Babatunde Balogun on Monday, September 7, 2020 said the party would no longer allow campaign for political office seekers to be managed by Independent Campaign Groups( ICG) as witnessed in the 2019 general election.
Mr Babatunde said that despite the fact that campaign groups are being formed by formidable members and party loyalists, the directive is given in other to have a smooth running of the party in the State. He noted that the party would remain in charge of all affairs involving political programs for the party.
Balogun said this during the inauguration of the campaign committee for the Lagos East Senatorial District and Kosofe Constituency II bye-election for Mr. Tokunbo Abiru and Obafemi Saheed at the party’s Secretariat at Acme, Ikeja.
The Lagos State party chairman added that the committee set up for both candidates where to act as a matter of current realities in the State, adding that no special recognition was given to formation of groups and members of the party remain united with the motive of working for the success of the party.
Balogun stressed that Local Government and Ward Chairman would be duly consulted and be accorded special recognition during campaign committees formation.
“Therefore, the supremacy of the party as an entity is emphasized, as the saying goes ‘the party is supreme’. No group stands any chance in taking undue advantage over the other and that has been the guiding principle in the formation of this campaign committee.
“But the new reality in the party is that the control, management, overseeing the campaign and conduct of elections lie in the hands of the APC State chapter.
“No independent campaign organization exists anymore. APC as a political party reigns supreme in party matters. Henceforth, apart from the party executives, the LGA party chairmen and ward chairmen must be given due regards and recognition in their LG and wards accordingly,” he said
