In order to ensure justice and compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that its governorship primary in Bayelsa State, which is set to take place on Friday, will be open to all candidates.
Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary, said as much on Thursday’s Politics Today programme on Channels Television, adding that while party leaders sympathise with David Lyon over losing the 2020 election, “you cannot use sympathy to upstage legality and due process.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced Lyon, the APC candidate for governor of Bayelsa State in 2019, as the winner of the election.
However, the Supreme Court removed Lyon and his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo, from office in February 2020 after the latter was accused of submitting falsified documents to INEC. The court also confirmed Duoye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo as the governor and deputy governor of Bayelsa, respectively.
To compete in the party’s primary on Friday, Lyon has purchased the N50 million governorship ticket. Former state governor and former minister of state for petroleum resources Timipre Sylva is one of his rivals.
