Hon. Alabi Kolade David, the chairman of the Bariga Local Council, has reaffirmed the council’s commitment to including the populace in participatory governance, where residents are given the opportunity to speak up and participate in governance.
The head of the council stated that his administration will support the growth and development of the council in accordance with the democratic principles of due consultation, full disclosure, transparency, inclusion, responsive leadership, rule of law, and due process during a consultative forum of stakeholders held at the council’s secretariat Bawala, Bariga on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

“Today, we stand on the threshold to establish a new Bariga, the Bariga of our pride, the Bariga we would all be proud of,” he continued. “Therefore, our policy is one of repositioning, rebranding and reforming Bariga.”
“It is crucial that we include all relevant parties in our governance processes for infrastructure, social services, healthcare, security, and education.
He also emphasised how dedicated his administration is to create the Bariga of our dreams, one free of cultism and cultist, neighbourhood boys, littering waste, foul drains, and dirts.
Alabi also took advantage of the occasion to tell the audience of the administration’s life-saving, lasting, and above all, sustainable projects, as well as its long-term plans for Bariga.
Regarding the strategy for the upcoming year, the council chief stated that the administration will place a greater emphasis on the health sector due to plans to rebuild the Oloja health facility as well as the Asogbon, Adeleye, and Eva Adelaja health centres.
Regarding education, Igbehinadun/Adaranijo primary school is almost finished, and Ladi Lak primary school is on the horizon due to the ongoing plan to modernise the 30 primary schools in Bariga.
We won’t stop working to transform Bariga, the council chief stated, adding that sports, particularly track and field competitions, would receive attention. The CMS elementary school field will be prepared for that.
Bariga is blessed with water, therefore the council will focus on the fish farm in the upcoming year because it is a valuable resource that should be utilised to the fullest. The area of agriculture will also be examined.
According to the head of the council, Bariga is a popular tourist destination. The council has been given a 30,000 Euro fund, which will shortly be delivered and used for that purpose.
