Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has directed all parastatals, agencies, and ministries to halt hiring.
Additionally, the governor mandated the immediate removal of several state employees who were receiving double pay from the federal government.
The most recent change, according to the Akeredolu, was made to discourage other employees.
When receiving the Committee for Verification, Scrutinization, and Clean-up of the State Payroll’s report on Wednesday, Akeredolu made this statement.
Regarding the affected employees, there was no precise count, and it wasn’t made public either.
According to Akerodolu, the state workforce is overstaffed and there are undoubtedly many ghost workers, so all recruiting must cease until the salary verification committee has completed its task.
He said: “We have over-bloated workforce, and undoubtedly, I am sure there are many ghost workers. Those who are receiving double salaries, apart from recovering the money from them, I am directing the Head of Service to get them dismissed. They must serve as deterrent to others.”
