On Monday, a Federal High Court in Abuja denied suspended DCP Abba Kyari’s bail application.
In a judgement, Justice Emeka Nwite stated that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had presented the court with adequate evidence to deny the bail request.
Kyari’s co-defendants’ bail applications were likewise denied by Justice Nwite.
The NDLEA stated in its counter affidavit that according to the facts and circumstances of the case, it was inappropriate to grant bail to the petitioner.
Kyari was labeled a “flight risk” by the anti-narcotics agency.
It claimed that if bail was granted, the suspended DCP would attempt to flee the country.
The agency urged the court to reject Kyari’s release request, claiming that if he was granted bail, he would tamper with the evidence.
It said that the applicant’s medical problems were not beyond the agency’s medical staff’s capabilities.
In his decision, the judge agreed with NDLEA’s reasons and denied the request.
