As the competition moves into its exciting final phases, the CAF Technical Study Group (TSG) has released its preliminary evaluation of the ongoing CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, confirming that the competition has exceeded expectations on the pitch.
The CAF’s Director of Technical and Development, Raul Chipenda, expressed his satisfaction with the calibre of the competition, saying, “We are witnessing an exceptional competition.” After roughly 50 official matches, this AFCON stands out as the best in history in a number of ways. The team of experts, which includes data analysts, technical directors, former football players, and coaches, has enough of data to work with.

The CAF’s Director emphasised the coaches’ tactical skill and the disciplined approach used by teams in different formations, pointing out the notable narrowing of the apparent difference between smaller and larger teams. He said that by demonstrating how the African game has developed, the tournament has surpassed expectations.
With years of experience serving the African football community in various technical roles, the CAF Technical Study Group, which is made up of seasoned football analysts from all over the continent, provides a wealth of knowledge to the assessment process.
He stressed the value of African countries continuing to invest in the growth of football in his closing remarks. In order to enhance African football and foster the birth of world-class players domestically, he called for active involvement from all nations, arguing that this would lessen need on international talent.
