According to political science professor Jideofor Adibe, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration mishandled herders’ conflicts during the past eight years and was emotionally detached from Nigerians.
Ofor-Adibe, a professor at Nasarawa State University, stated that the President had made strides in infrastructure development with the construction of the Second Niger Bridge during a Monday appearance on Channels Television’s News At 10.

Ofor-Adibe added that Buhari utilised his connections and diplomatic clout to secure positions for Nigerians in agencies like the World Trade Organisation and the African Development Bank.
“There were people he regarded as a dot in a circle; yes, he built the Second Niger Bridge, for which people will never forget him in the South-East,” he stated.
“But for now, people tend to relate more to people not just by what they get from you but by how they feel you treat them. It is in that realm of feeling towards him because he was emotionally distant from many Nigerians, this inability to show empathy.
“For example, if there is a natural disaster, you will expect to see a president on the spot giving emotional support and condolences.
“Because he was not that type of person, he was emotionally distant, whereas, on a whim, he would fly out. People tend not to relate to him the way they relate to others.”
