Tajudeen Abbas, a member of the House of Representatives from the Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State and the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s anointed candidate, won a voice vote on Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja to succeed Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji as Speaker of the Green Chamber.
Of the 359 votes cast, Abbas got 352 of votes, while Jaji and Wase each got three.

After being sworn in as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas, a member of the House since 2011, succeeded Femi Gbajabiamila, who is now the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
Benjamin Kalu, an Abia State representative for the Bende Federal Constituency, was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House. He won with no opposition, taking over for Wase as Deputy Speaker of the House for the ninth National Assembly.
