US Special Operations Command Africa, Advocates Multi-faceted Approach and Partnership To Tackle Violent Extremism.
The Commander, U.S. Special Operations Command Africa, Major-General Davgin Anderson has advocated a multi-faceted approach and partnership to successfully combat violent extremism in the continent.
He gave the advice during a digital news briefing on U.S. partnerships with African Nation’s to reduce extremism, combat terrorist organizations, and bring about peace and prosperity throughout the African continent.
The session was organised and moderated by the US Department of State, Africa Regional Hub.
Noting that violent extremist Organisations are resilient and have been leveraging social media and other platforms, General Anderson stated while threats posed by these organisations must not be underestimated, each Government has to focus and provide that focus for international partners to engage with to defeat them.
Pointing out that the U.S Special Operations had partnered Nigeria in counterterrorism with great effect, General Dagvin who described the Country as a critical Nation to West Africa and a lynchpin said the Nigerian Government must take the lead against violent extremist Organisations and stressors.
The Special Operations, Command Africa primarily works with African special operations forces providing training, mentorship, and assistance that helps develop partner Nation capabilities to defeat violent extremism.
