President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, 27 July, 2020 approved the naming of some railway stations along the Lagos-Ibadan and the Itakpe- Ajaokuta-Warri corridor after some deserving Nigerian citizens.
The approval was announced in a statement by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi through his spokesman, Eric Ojiekwe, who said that the citizens have contributed to the progress and development of their respective communities and the Nation at large.
The Apapa station was named after Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while the Kajola station was named after Prof Osinbajo and Abeokuta station was named after Prof. Soyinka, Ajaokuta station was named after the late Saraki.
Also the Ebute Metta Station was named after Mobolaji Johnson, Agege station was named after Babatunde Raji Fashola , Lateef Jakande replaces Agbado station and Papalanto station named after Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.
Aremo Segun Osoba takes Olodo station, Chief Ladoka Akintola has Omio-Adio station, Chief Obafemi Awolowo takes Ibadan station, Operation Control Centre named after Chief Alex Ekwueme
Alhaji Adamu Attah takes Itakpe station, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu has Itogbo station, Brigadier General George Innih has Agenebode station, Anthony Eromosele Enahoro replaces Uromi station, Chief Tom Ikimi takea Ekehen station, and Brig. Gen. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia (rtd) takes Igbanke station.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Agbor Station Complex, Brigadier General David Ejoor has Abraka station, Micheal Ibru takes Opara station, Alfred Rewane takes Ujevwu station and Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe takes Railway Village, Agbor.
