The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved an increase in the price of bus fare on the route operated by the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL).
This was according to a statement by the Assistant Director, Corporate Communication, Lagos Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LAMATA), MR. Kolawole Ojelabi said the Governor gave his assent to an average of 46percent increase starting from August 1, 2020.
It also stated that the Governor also approved LBSL’s request to increase the number of commuters per bus from 20 to 42 in compliance with COVID-19 protocol, by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in the operation of public transport, while ensuring other safety measures are in place.
He stated that the Governor’s approval followed a plea by the bus operating company on need to continue operation because of the negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on public bus transportation.
Governor Sanwo-olu was also reported to have granted permission to LBSL to access dedicated bus lanes in the State in other to make their journey time predictable.
However, the LBSL said the approved increase in fare will improve the company’s operational efficiency and serve the people better.
