Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki on Sunday, 14 June, 2020 visited his counterpart in Rivers State, Nyesome Wike behind a close-door meeting in Port Harcourt.
Although details of the meeting between the two South-South Governors is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, but suspected to be connected with the recent disqualification of the Edo State Governor to contest in the forthcoming All Progressive Congress(APC) Governorship primary in the State.
Our source says, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has reached out to the People’s Democratic party to solicit their support in other to achieve his Governorship reelection bid.
The APC had approved its screening and appeal committees’ reports which disqualified Obaseki and two others from participating in the June 22 Governorship primaries in Edo.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by its National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, announced Obaseki’s disqualification on June 13 at a news conference in Abuja.
Oshiomhole said the NWC, which reviewed the two reports, noted with satisfaction that members of the committees were unanimous in their decisions.
The Edo State Commissioner for Youth and Special Duties had confirmed that the consultation with the Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was to lobby in other to contest in the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside his Deputy Hon. Philip Shaibu.
However, speculations has it that the embattled Governor of Edo state will officially address the media to announce his defection into another party.
