The former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Peter Fayose has said that no one with paperweight would be allowed to decamp to the Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) henceforth.
Fayose said this on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 while reacting to a declaration letter, dated 24th May 2020, addressed to the PDP Caretaker Committee by the former Governor of Ekiti State and former deputy
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress( APC), Chief Segun Oni indicating his interest to return to PDP.
Chief Segun Oni had on March 15, 2020 stated that his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party was not driven by desperation to become Governor in 2022 but owing to alleged discrimination against his supporters by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the State, adding that his defection with his supporters was “justifiable and not self-serving.”
The former Governor, Segun Oni through his “Atunse Ekiti Movement” further stated that the decision to leave APC was part of a collective resolution taken by Oni’s loyalists in view of the deep rooted impunity and display of hatred for Chief Segun Oni including the alleged maltreatment being inflicted on Oni’s loyalist in APC.
Extract from the 9-pages letter, Oni said; “At our consultative meeting on the 15th March, 2020, we took on to leave the APC for PDP. Our purpose of writing this letter is to inform you formally that we have since directed our members to join the PDP at their respective Wards and that, as soon as the Covid19 restrictions permit, we would like to mark our declaration with a rally at Ado Ekiti. This will be in full consultation and agreement with you.”
Oni’s decision to return to PDP has been described by Fayose as paperweights as majority of these Oni’s fellow returnees are nothing but or no ‘weight’, whose names are simply to fill the gaps in desperation for recognition. Fayose said, “they are not welcome.”
The returnees includes:- Hon. Dr. Ife Arowosoge (fmr. Member, House of Representatives), Hon. John Akintoye (fmr. Member, House of Representatives), Hon. Past. Mrs Akinwale Florence Atinuke (fmr.
