In addition to saying that “our mentality should also change,”former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay attention to the concerns and demands of the youth that led to the country’s nationwide protests. He also asserted that all hands must be on deck for Nigeria to achieve its highest status.
In a Friday speech to six members of the National Assembly in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo called for the demands of the youth to be met immediately, stating that their demands were justifiable and that there could be severe repercussions if they were not.

A bill that calls for a single six-year term for the presidency and a rotation between the North and the South is co-sponsored by the six lawmakers.
Obasanjo, who urged the Federal Government to pay attention to the youth and not dismiss their concerns, emphasised that if the mindset of those in charge of the country does not change, Nigeria will remain in its current state. The question is not whether the nation should adopt a single six-year term or keep things as they are.
“You are what you are today because you’re a Nigerian; I’m what I am also because I’m a Nigerian. So why should they be Nigerians and be languishing in poverty?
“They make demands and we’re not listening to them. Many of them are frustrated, desperate, angry, and unemployed. What do we expect?
