After making remarks disparaging the people of the North, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose was encouraged to apologise to the people of the North by former legislator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly.
In an interview that aired on Channels Television on Monday night, Fayose incited controversy by claiming that the reason the federal government was unable to develop Nigeria was because northerners were taking multiple wives and bearing numerous children in an indiscriminate manner, creating a great deal of problems for the country and a burden on the government.

According to Fayose, “Northerners are having children they can’t cater for, which is why it is difficult for Tinubu to develop Nigeria.”
The former legislator responded by saying that Fayose’s remark was unacceptable in a post on his official X account on Tuesday.
“Even though Fayose spoke as an individual, his reported statement on Northerners is contemptuous and unconscionable.
“I suggest he should humbly withdraw it and tender an apology as a statesman”, Sani stated.
