Recalling how he once narrowly escaped death, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), claims that he is alive because God is wonderful. He also notes that his 82nd birthday coincides with the 38th anniversary of the church’s annual Special Holy Ghost Service, and he expresses gratitude to God for the lives that the programme has touched.
Speaking on Saturday at the Redemption Camp, near the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun, in front of a gathering that was celebrating his 82nd birthday, Pastor Adeboye related an incident from many years ago that, in his words, would have taken his life if it weren’t for a divine intervention.

He cited a previous account from his former driver of multiple instances on the route to Ilorin, Kwara, in which the cleric and his wife narrowly averted death.
Adeboye said that the most frightening was one in which their vehicle came face to face with a trailer that was coming at full speed on a narrow path, by a bridge which had a river by its side.
“Somehow we passed,” he said, noting that it was a miracle that they escaped unhurt in the incident, which left both him and his driver shaking.
Adeboye claimed that his driver was so taken aback by the escape that he kept saying “wonderful” all the way to Ilorin.
He prayed that God would be wonderful in people’s lives and remarked, “That I am alive today is because His name is wonderful.”
Adeboye was grateful to the believers for honouring him, hoping that none of them would pass away too soon, and believing that they would surpass him.
