The immediate former governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was granted bail in the amount of N300 million by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja. Two sureties in like sum which must have certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama District.
Emefiele is required to stay inside the Abuja Municipal Council and to deposit all of his travel documents with the court registrar. It is anticipated that he would stay at Kuje Correctional Centre until he fulfils the requirements of his bail.

Emefiele did not show up for the hearing on his bail application on Wednesday morning. But since he is already incarcerated at the Kuje Correctional Centre, his attorney, Mr. Mathew Burkaa, claimed that was expected.
This occurs four months after the Federal High Court in Lagos granted him N20 million in bail. However, on Friday, Emefiele was charged with six counts related to purported procurement by the Federal Government.
Six charges totaling N1.6 billion were added to the original 20 counts, which totaled N6.5 billion. In the new charge, Emefiele is the only defendant.
