Given the current political climate and the advantages of having elected public officials who are resourceful and focused on results, Bariga Local Council is in the forefront of communities in Lagos State that should be admired and imitated as the Centre of Excellence right now.
I took some time to reflect on the calibre of the development projects that are routinely presented to the residents of the Bariga Community by the office of the executive chairman of the council area. Suffice it to say that the Bariga residents are among the luckiest Lagosian communities, secretly reaping the benefits of democracy without conflict.
In a reportedly first-of-its-kind event, the council chairman, hon. Kolade Alabi David, officially unveiled Bariga Local Council palliative transport services and the distribution of palliatives to the Bariga community.
The 20 Hummer buses, which are completely automated and ready to transport passengers at a 50% discount, are intended to alleviate the impact of subsidy reduction on the most needy population outside of civil service, as the Council has decided to support its people with credible palliatives.

According to the Council boss, only six of the twenty buses will be used directly, and the NURTW and Critical Stakeholders will likely receive the second set of fourteen (14) buses as part of an empowerment programme that will help reduce transportation costs in the neighbourhood, integrate the informal economy, and promote local economic development in Bariga.
The ALGON president declared: “We are swiftly implementing these palliative measures to prioritise tackling widespread hunger and a rapidly declining standard of living while also reaching out to our people who have been most negatively impacted by the loss of the petrol subsidy.”
“In this regard, our government has designed and begun implementing palliatives for low-income earness.” We will continue to interact with crucial stakeholders before adopting and executing any new policy, as this will facilitate buy-in, massive support, as well as ease of implementation”.
He stated that the government must develop social assistance programmes for the disadvantaged and vulnerable at all levels, and that the Council is now providing financial support, food distributions, and a functional health care programme to the community’s residents.
The Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar were urged by Alabi to support His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s administration and policies, which have given the people new hope for a better, more prosperous future. Alabi praised the judiciary’s decision and added that power truly belongs to the people.
He extends his profound gratitude to Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, the indomitable governor of Lagos State, for his capable guidance and assistance.
