The Department of State Services (DSS) reports that it has charged suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to court in response to an Abuja High Court order dated Thursday, July 13, 2023 that the secret police charge the troubled Emefiele to court within one week or release him.
The DSS’s spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, stated that Emefiele had been charged to court in accordance with the court’s decision, but he omitted to name the court or the charges brought against the suspended bank leader there.

“The public may recall that the Service had, in 2022, applied for a Court Order to detain him in respect of a criminal investigation,” Afunanya stated in a statement late Thursday.
Despite the fact that Emefiele had a restraining order issued by an FCT High Court, the secret police, who have assured the public of their professionalism, justice, and fairness, had him detained in June 2023 on the basis of suspected new criminal infractions/information, one of which served as the foundation for his current prosecution.
