In order to maintain public safety on Mondays and every day in the state, Ahmed Ammani, the commissioner of police in Enugu State, has directed the deployment of officials around the state.
This comes after the outlawed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB)’s weekly sit-at-home order was cancelled by the new governor of Enugu, Peter Mbah, on June 1, 2023.
In accordance with the IPOB command, which the separatist organisation utilises force to enforce, many inhabitants of Enugu and the other four South-east states mark Mondays as sit-at-home days. For daring to defy the order, numerous people have been killed or injured, and businesses have been destroyed.
Governor Mbah announced on Saturday that schools, marketplaces, retail stores, hospitals, transportation companies and malls that continue to follow the IPOB order to sit at home would be closed in an effort to discourage locals from doing so.

A task force was also established by Mr. Mbah to ensure that his new direction was followed starting on Monday, June 5, 2023.
The Enugu State police commissioner said in a statement released on Sunday that he had directed strategic units to deploy people and operational resources to carry out the governor’s proclamation.
The police commissioner claimed that he issued orders to tactical and operational units, divisional police officers, area commanders, and commanders of Police Mobile Force Squadron Bases.
On all days, including Mondays, he promised, they will provide the greatest level of public safety and protection for the state’s citizens and property.
“I have ordered them to ensure that the strategies already devised to reverse the ugly trend are implemented to the letter and equally warned them that lapses on their part would not be tolerated.
“I have directed the supervisory officers and personnel under them to live up to expectations by ensuring that every part of the state is visibly patrolled.
“The personnel should also ensure that necessary policing actions are taken to forestall possible adverse activities of the undesirable criminal elements
“Innocent and law-abiding residents deserve to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or physical threats by unscrupulous and subversive criminal elements, enforcing the illegal sit-at-home order.’’
“Unrepentant criminal elements that take pleasure in wanton destruction should turn a new leaf as security forces shall not spare any person or individuals found wanting,’’ Mr Ammani said in the statement.
