A secret weapon that Arsenal may employ to capture Xavi Simons this summer has given the Gunners an advantage in the transfer market. The PSV star had been mooted as a possibility for Arsenal in May, and those links have now resurfaced with the club’s interest in Simons being labelled as “emphatic” in a recent report.
The 20-year-old, who joined PSV from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, has been in outstanding form throughout the majority of his rookie season. In 48 games, he has scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists.

His brilliant efforts in front of goal appear to have caught the attention of those in north London, according to Dutch site Voetbal International, who report that while a number of elite European clubs have expressed interest, Arsenal are the most likely candidate for a transfer.
Further in the report, it is revealed that PSG’s buyback clause is only worth €12 million (£10.3 million), most likely because he left on a free transfer. Although it might seem as though that gives the Parisians a big advantage, Simons has already made a key choice this summer that could provide Arsenal a competitive edge if they decide to pursue a bid for him.
Last month, Simons decided to transfer from his previous agent Rafaela Pimente to Darren Dein, whose obvious connections to Arsenal raise the possibility that an Emirates Stadium switch is in the works. Because David Dein was a former vice-chairman and co-owner of Arsenal, the surname Dein is well-known among Arsenal fans.
