Nigerians who were stranded in the unrest-plagued Sudan and have since been airlifted back into the nation have been talking about the horrific experiences they underwent.
The stranded Nigerians were evacuated from Egypt by Air Peace and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) after days of planning and the confusions in between; many were too fatigued and traumatised to talk.
The few who muster the courage to even speak are filled with gratitude for the providence that allowed them to escape a deadly battle that seems to ignore all appeals to reason and would sooner destroy Sudan than reach a settlement.
Upon meeting newsmen at the Abuja Airport, Sadiq Musa Zakari expressed his joy and pride in Nigeria. Zakari, a native of the Plateau, thanked God for ensuring his homecoming.

Musa Ali Ibrahim, a native of Kano State, shared a similar testimonies while praising the government’s efforts to ensure the safe return of students who were left behind in Sudan.
“We faced so many challenges and we faced so many problems. We saw what we have never seen in our lives.
“We tried to call Nigeria’s attention and the Nigerian government attended to us, so we are actually happy,” Zakari told our reporter.
“The moment we landed here, we felt safe, we breathed fresh air and we could hear no sound of bullets and grenades, so we knew we were safe,” Ibrahim narrated.
“Now, we can get water to drink, we can eat now and sleep in peace, so we thank God for that,” he added with a broad smile.
