Despite denying that Russia was responsible for the damage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines last year, former US President Donald Trump warned against speculating about the real culprit because it may “get our country in trouble.”
In an interview with Fox’s Tucker Carlson that will show in its entirety later this week, Trump was questioned about “who blew up the Nord Stream pipeline,” which was struck by several explosions in September under inexplicable circumstances.
I don’t want to get our country in trouble so I won’t answer it. But I can tell you who it wasn’t, was Russia. How about when they blamed Russia. They said ‘Russia blew up their own pipeline.’ You got a kick out of that one, too. It wasn’t Russia,” he told the Fox News pundit.
A February report by investigative journalist Seymour Hersh claimed that US President Joe Biden had personally ordered the bombing as a way to persuade Germany to step up support for Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia. While the US and other Western governments have so far provided few details about ongoing investigations into the sabotage.

The story, which cited unidentified sources, was vehemently refuted by Washington, which stated it had no part in the bombs. It’s a wholly bogus narrative. There is no basis for it. John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, said as much to Fox in February.
Similar to how Ukrainian officials denied any involvement in the Nord Stream sabotage, the New York Times later reported that an unidentified “pro-Ukrainian group” was responsible for the attack. However, it is unclear how the gang could have carried out the bombing from a tiny pleasure boat as stated because the operation would have needed, among other things, military-grade explosives and skilled divers.
Hersh dismissed the Times’ report as a “cover-up” orchestrated by US intelligence services, despite the fact that the publication relied heavily on anonymous intelligence officers to back up its claims..
Moscow has expressed doubts about the “pro-Ukrainian group,” with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claiming that the tale was purposefully spread by Western media sources to divert attention away from the findings that Hersh is said to have found.
