A coalition of Rivers State gubernatorial candidates has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resist any pressure from the state’s governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governorship elections draw near.
The demand was made at a joint press conference organised by governorship candidates for the state’s opposition parties in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital, who claimed to have discovered a scheme by the PDP and INEC to rig the elections in the PDP’s favour.

The parties include the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party (AP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Action Alliance (AA), and All Progressives Congress (APC).
While alleging a plan to rig the poll, Tonye Cole, the APC candidate, asked in the statement that government officials not be let into collation centres.
Sobomabo Jack Rich, a contender for the NRM governorship, responded to inquiries by arguing that the security services must adhere to INEC regulations.
In his own response, Accord candidate Dumo Lulu-Briggs stated that the opposition is unified in their desire for free, fair, and credible elections. He was represented by deputy governor candidate Tambari Hilda Deidam.
