Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, believes Godwin Obaseki shouldn’t be concerned about being impeached if he loses the House of Assembly election on March 11, 2023.
In an interview with journalists in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, Oshiomhole, who won the February 25 general election and is now the senator-elect for Edo North Senatorial District, said that if Obaseki had done a good job as governor of Edo State, he wouldn’t be concerned about voters rejecting his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Senator-Elect asserted that the parliamentary system does not exist under an authoritarian style of governance and charged the Obaseki-led state administration of restricting how the parliament should operate in more civilised environments.
Oshiomhole said that his successor had taken total control of Edo State and suggested that he could be being pursued by his “guilty conscience.”

The ex-governor continued by saying that the House of Assembly candidates running for seats in the Edo Parliament are “eager to guarantee that the governor spends resources in a manner that captures the expectations of their diverse people. It is not in their platform to remove the governor.
Oshiomhole said; “Of the number of people who are contesting, how many are new members who are seeking election for the first time and how many are old members who probably have been elected before?” he queried.
“There is no truth in it unless the governor feels that he has committed so much atrocities that he is now afraid that he cannot stand the rigour of democratic governance.”
“The purpose of the House of Assembly is to subject the Executive to legislative scrutiny. It is not for nothing that you spend millions, if not billions, maintaining a parliament.”
