Just 72 hours had passed since an explosion shook the building that housed the federal lawmaker’s two media outlets, Wish FM and the Atlantic Television Network that Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party was detained, according to the Rivers State police command.
Igwe was detained for money laundering, according to a tweet from the police, and he will face charges.

The declaration said: Hon Chinyere Igwe is detained by the Rivers Police for money laundering.
While conducting a stop and search at INEC Headquarters Aba Road today, February 24, 2023, at approximately 02:45 p.m., police officers from Rivers State Command arrested Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives who represents Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency, and found 498,100 USD hidden in a bag in his car.
“Also recovered was a list for distribution of the money.
“The AIG in charge of election, AIG Abutu Yaro has ordered a swift interrogation and arraignment in court. The command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.”
