Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has charged Chief Bode George, a former PDP deputy national chairman, of bringing serious but unfounded accusations against Atiku.
Sowounmi said that George was barking up the wrong tree and should instead direct his rage and displeasure at the appropriate parties. As a result, he demanded that security forces arrest George for his accusations against the PDP candidate.
With George criticising Atiku and the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, for their alleged silence on the plight of Nigerians following the naira scarcity and fuel shortage brought on by the poorly thought-out policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Showunmi made the call in this context.
Speaking with reporters in Lagos on Thursday, the former military governor of Ondo State bemoaned that the leadership of the PDP, the ostensible main opposition party, and Atiku’s campaign director-general Aminu Tambuwal appear to be keeping a graveyard silence regarding this anomaly, which is a deviation from regulation or what is considered to be normal.

But in response, Sowunmi accused Chief George of engaging in risky political manoeuvring with his submission and pressed the PDP leader to provide proof of his assertions.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration are responsible for Nigeria’s current situation, according to the former Atiku adviser.
Sowunmi stated, “Those are very, very heavy claims Chief Bode George has made and I’m not precisely convinced that if he is called upon to present proof he may easily be able to do so.” Sowunmi was speaking during a stakeholders’ gathering of PDP leaders from all 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
“I don’t think those who are unhappy the party chairman related issues or otherwise can throw caution to the wind in the manner Chief Olabode George has taken it.
“I think the security officers should, first of all arrest him and ask him to come and provide evidence. Is it the people he alleged that did the policy of change of currency, are they the ones that are in charge of the Nigerian security printing and minting, are they the ones that are in charge of currency circulation of CBN?
“He (George) is wrong, the PDP has no hand in the madness going on here, it is purely, a failing of APC, a failing of their government, a failing of their policy, a failing of their responsibility as leaders.
“Nobody should play dangerous politics with the PDP. If Bode George is so sure, then I call on the Director-General of DSS, the Inspector General of police and all responsible organisations for security to arrest him forthwith and ask him to come and provide evidence for the very weighty allegations that he is making.”
