Dele Momodu, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recognised on Tuesday that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is a third force in Nigerian politics.
Obi is “struggling,” according to Momodu, who said on Channels Television’s special election show, The 2023 Verdict, since a presidential campaign is not a marathon and it takes time to create relationships.
The PDP leader was questioned about if he now recognises Obi and the Labour Party as a third force. He said, “I’m a democracy, I would not degrade anybody. Obi is a third force, but the issue is: How powerful is that third force?
He claims that only his candidate, an Adamawa native from the northeast of Nigeria, is qualified to lead the nation into the future.

“Usually, in many countries, you have two mainstream political parties and candidates,” Momodu said.
“In the case of Nigeria, now we seem to have a third force, the fourth force is not doing much. And who are the leading candidates? Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos and Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State.”
Both Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, and Obi were dismissed by Momodu, who claimed that despite being southerners, neither had the necessary skills to reposition Nigeria.
“If Peter Obi is struggling, then the number four would have to struggle more. He is definitely struggling. A presidential race is a marathon; it is a long-distance race, it takes time to build up,” he also added.
