Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) nominee for president in 2023, held a campaign event on Thursday in Port Harcourt’s Liberation Stadium.
Former Anambra State governor Obi attended the event with his wife Margaret and a number of party insiders and members of the presidential campaign council.

The gathering of LP fans was entertained by the musical duo Peter and Paul, also known as P-Square.
Doyin Okupe, an embattled ally of Obi’s who the party’s Presidential Campaign Council said is still a member, did not attend the event on Thursday, despite the assertion.
Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, guaranteed logistical help for Obi’s campaign and that of Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) last month.
Wike, a leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been at odds with Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential nominee, over control of Iyorchia Ayu. Since the start of the general election campaigning for 2023, Atiku, who has visited the majority of states, has not been to Rivers.
It is unclear if Wike will endorse Obi, Kwankwaso, or Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress as he has declined to campaign for Atiku (APC).
