Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), does not have the authority to prevent any PDP member from running for office, according to Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers.
Wike was responding to a recent remark made by Ayu in Gboko, Benue state, when he made this statement on Sunday in Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers. Wike declared that he challenges Ayu to prevent any party member from running in the elections of 2023.
“I dare the national chairman of PDP to stop any contestant for the election. I dare Ayu to stop any PDP candidate from contesting the election. He doesn’t have the power,” Wike said.
Ayu had claimed he could have thwarted the political aspirations of those asking for his resignation while speaking to his followers on Friday.

Some party members pushing for Ayu’s ouster are running for office in the general election in 2023.
I have remained silent despite everything you have heard about me because I don’t want the party I support to split in my state, Ayu had previously stated.
I will require that I must sign before you go anyplace, so I have the authority to declare, “You and you will not go anywhere.
“However, whether I like it or not, I signed for all candidates generated by the PDP to pursue their ambitions.”
