Peter Obi’s visit to Ahmad Gumi, a contentious Islamic preacher, has drawn varied reactions from some of the Labour Party (LP) candidate’s followers.
In a tweet published on Monday, October 17, 2022; Mr. Obi and his running companion, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, visited the cleric at his home in Kaduna State as a courtesy.

In the post, Mr. Obi stated, “Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed and I paid Sheikh Gumi a courtesy call at his official residence in Kaduna.”
While the LP candidate’s visit to the region, who is widely supported by young Nigerians, may be viewed as little more than a political ploy ahead of the general elections, some of his fans have stated that they will withdraw their backing for him.
His detractors and supporters who felt misled by the visit left thousands of comments, likes, and retweets on the tweet as of the time this item was filed.
The Kaduna-based Islamic scholar has come under fire for his remarks, which some have construed as endorsing terrorists and bandits, as terrorism and banditry have become more prevalent in the nation.
