Atiku Abubakar has been under fire from the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and other well-known leaders from the Southeast.
They encouraged Nigerians not to take seriously Atiku’s commitment to relinquish the presidency to the zone in 2027, who is running for president as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall how Alhaji Atiku Abubakar recently made a fresh offer to Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, out of worry for the threat the governor’s camp poses to his bid for the presidency in 2016?
On Thursday of last week, Atiku and Wike met in Abuja. Atiku pledged backing for Wike’s own 2027 presidential campaign in exchange for Wike’s agreement to lay down his sword and vote for him (Atiku) in the 2023 election.
The PDP presidential candidate reportedly pledged to support Wike for the presidency in 2027, according to sources close to the meeting but Wike appears uncommitted to Atiku because of prior breaches of commitment. Wike is therefore alleged to have stated that he would consult his group before returning to Atiku.
In an Enugu rally, Atiku stated that he would help Ndigbo win the presidency in 2027 in exchange for the region’s support of him in 2023.
In response, Ohanaeze remarked that no Southeast or Igbo person would take the counsel seriously.
